The Secret Garden

They went for a wander.  Time for the little ones to run and play.
The sky, dark and brooding.  A chink of light in the swirling ink, a whisper of promise, unfulfilled.
The children saw it first.  A little hole in the hedge, low to the ground.  Peeping through.  Time for an adventure.
On all fours they clambered through, emerging into a childsize avenue.  Like Alice down a rabbit hole.  Dimly lit by rationed light, going nowhere.  Thick growth on either side.  Excited hearts beating fast.  Finding another hole, they pushed through, emerging into a forgotten place.
A mossy court, carpeted in shades of gold and green.  Tattered strings, hanging low.
The pavilion long abandoned, a quiet place to sit awhile.  Shards of weakly warm sun shining on this place alone.
The little ones discovering trees, laddered branches, perfect for climbing.
Flower rings and robin song.  Children’s voices awakening the lost garden, a slumbering secret.
Abandoned and unloved but quietly thriving.
Golden trumpets through a broken pane.
Time to leave their magical world.
Poking a head out through the hedge, making sure they are not seen.  They shouldn't have been there, but it belonged to them for a short while.  They awakened its spirit.  Holding the secret in their hearts.  They will return again soon.  Please don’t tell.

Great tale...full of excitement and suspense for the explorers. Traipsing through unknown territories (it's all about being somewhere where you're not supposed to be) wondering what you will find. It's a cool place!

What a thrilling adventure - just what I would have loved to discover! When we first came to France we lived near an abandoned farm which was similarly exciting, but too dangerous for children, of course. And congrats on one year and 100 posts! It's been a real pleasure to find you here in blogland.

There very own secret garden! What powerful little conjurers to have manifested such a magnificent adventure! Moments they will surely treasure forever! I smiled form ear to ear since I recalled a day where my sister and I were lucky enough o find an old abandoned
house in a paddock once... we spent hours there imagining what secrets the walls held. This truly is the stuff of dreams. Your secret is safe with me :-)
Happy anniversary! Angy Xx

This lovely post reminded me of a Japanese animated film about a secret, magical world discovered by 2 little girls - My Neighbour Totoro - the little ones might well enjoy it.
