Walking On Winter's Doorstep

Following a week of tedium, worry, crossed lines and red tape she set off with her basket to search for treasure whilst Mr went foraging for chestnuts.  Luck was on her side and she returned with trophy and goodies a plenty.  She will share her finds with you when they have been primped, preened and polished.  Mr was lucky too, returning with a haul of shiny plump sweet chestnuts, ready for the fire.

In somnolent mood, they dragged their step, not wanting to return home.  They needed to be energised, to be invigorated by long strides and long views.   They headed off to a favourite place.
Montacute House in the distance

They climbed, cooling air recharging, reviving.

Ferns burning bright in November light, winter nibbling.
They walked on carpets of gold, copper, burnished umber.  The forest's gifts, at that moment, more precious to them than any human given bounty.
A rustling close by, somebody's castle, something's home.
Nature reclaiming what man neglects, discards.
Feather, fern, quill and quiver.  Crisp tree confetti crunching.
Emerging from forest to field.
Stone jigsaw.  A wall of work.  Dedication and care.
Evening mist calling in the light.
Montacute Baptist Church

No longer feeling the need to run from home, ready to return.  Our castle.
Roasted potatoes and roots, flame charred chestnuts, bacon and thyme.  Red wine.
Reading by the fire ... making a few Christmas cards.
