They went foraging ...

... for wood.
They brought home enough to last a week or so,
in their backpacks and in their arms.
It made for a heavy walk,
but a cosy evening.
They crossed bridges ...
Played pirate games ...
Wondered at the bleached bones of stricken trees ...
Befriended this strange creature,
with bulbous nose and tri-spiked mohawk ...
And searched for beasties,
in a mini garden growing in the top of a post ...
A little wooded world of springy moss,
entwined with ivy.
Later,
in front of their roaring fire,
they feasted on smoky, garlicky, cheese topped, roasted cauliflower.

Fallen trees, although sad to see, leave such
an impression on the landscape...And, from
different angles, you see different figures,
of life in general!

And...Roasted cauliflower...with garlic/cheese,
One of my 'flavourites'. :).

Hello Marina, the ‘strange creature’ looks rather like a witch, if it were not for the hair! Seeing the photograph of your son put me in mind of my own son (now 43 and living in Australia). We used to enjoy all sorts of adventures when he was growing up, and I still miss his company when out walking. When he came over with his family at Christmas, he and I cooked lots of meals together. I loved spending time with my daughter in law and two little granddaughters, but those special moments spent with Steven will always be precious.

What a great journey they had of mystery and wonder. And I love how you described the tree, it DOES look like it has a Mohawk! The roasted cauliflower sounds delicious.

I always love your enchanting posts.
