Boredom ...

No electronic games, no TV.
Little man was bored.
He got out his tin of marbles and retrieved a discarded shoe box from the bin.
Hours of concentration with scissors and reams of sellotape,
resulted in 'The Marble Bazaar' ...
All cut from the one box,
with a few additional decorations!
Shoot the marbles through the holes.
Collect points.
Buy magic carpets!
But snakes guard the bazaar.
Lose points if you hit one ...
Mum and dad enjoyed playing too!
A place to store your marbles at the back,
just pull up the door to release them ...
The sun shines on the Marble Bazaar ...
It's good for children to be bored.
Boredom inspires creativity.

Can I come and play........? I use to love my marbles when I was little, nothing spectacular as that, just rolling marbles down a long hallway.

This cheered me up! I thought most young children these days played on computers or electronic games systems. We had to use our imagination as kids and boy, we used to have great times. Good for your son!!

I shall remember this next time my kids are bored. Rather than hide in the kitchen secretly trying to ring Barnardos to see if the will do a two for one offer on the pair of them, I'll give them the contents of the recycling box, scissors and sticky tape. I shall then lock the doors and run! By the time I return they will have created something amazing.

Ah, proper play - hurrah! We have numerous cardboard creations here and I wouldn't have it any other way. Ellie x

Great stuff! I totally agree about boredom - it did me no harm at all. I often wish Mums wouldn't cram every moment of their children's lives with activities, classes etc. It so often ends in rebellion too.

Fantastic! Mine were the same when they were small, but as late teens they seem permanently attached to a games console of some sort. Really lovely to see your son using his imagination... so much detail! Julie x

What wonderful creativity has evolved from boredom - your little man has made a Marble Bazaar masterpiece. I wonder which country he had in mind when he decided on using dinars - I think that there are several countries which use them as their currency.
I did comment before but it seems to have disappeared into blogosphere - may be this time I will be lucky.

That's such a heart warming post, he's really imaginative and talented. So many children never get the time to think, they're shuttled around from one activity to another and then 'baby sat' with electronic games.

Marina,

That is so cool! Look at what little man created and just because he had nothing else to occupy his time with. What a wonderful creation! I think all kids should spend time using their imagination, creating things, reading and writing stories. There is so much kids can do to keep busy.

I loved marbles as a kid...I used to shoot them with the boys. We would pay for "keepsie's"...if you hit their marble they had to give it to you for keeps. I was always trying to win those large steely marbles. LOL Loved it and those "cat eye" marbles.
