Tales of walking, eating, watching and playing. Vintage treasures and simple pleasures ... the things that make her happy.

Little signs ...

... springing up everywhere
Nipping out at lunchtime for a brisk walk.
Cold air biting.
But she senses change.
The season is turning.
Slowly mustering energy, awakening from its slumber.

February

Today I saw the Catkins blow,
Altho’ the hills are white with snow:

While throstles sang, “the sun is good”,
They waved their banners in the wood

They come to greet the lurking Spring,
As messengers from Winter’s King.

And thus they wave while Winter reigns,
While his cold grip still holds the plains.

Oh, tho the hills are white with snow,
Today I saw the catkins blow!

I am waiting for that time--the snowdrops, then the crocuses. Here I am still knee deep in snow, but looking at your pictures helps!

Still snow here too, but bought myself tulips today to remind me spring is on it's way! Julie x

Yes yes yes Jane! This is amazing, you are so right, we're moving into Spring ever so slowly and surely (it's 25 past 5 now and you can still see properly outside) so the change is happening, great post.

You are right about cold biting air!
But whenever I do venture out the birds are singing their little heads off.

Hi Marina.
Qui nevica da due giorni, c'è molto freddo, ma è l'inverno :):)
Ma tra un poco arriverà la primavera e poi forse riusciremo a tornare da voi, in Inghilterra, intanto io sogno!
Un abbraccio, *Maristella*.

Only snowdrops here so far in Yorkshire - but thank you for introducing me to the Yorkshire poetry of Dorothy Una Ratcliffe! I'm away to read more...

How lovely to see the Catkins as I peeked through your post and the poem of course was icing on the cake.
We had another icing of snowfall last night ...so soon after this past weekends blizzard ~sigh ...and though I always find fresh fallen snow beautiful ...I am so ready to see anything that would resemble catkins on our grounds
