Three Bright Stars

Life has had it’s ups and downs over the past fortnight … with rather more downs than ups.  Three friends lives cut short … they will be missed so very much.  At a funeral yesterday one song brought a tear to everyone’s eye (along with a smile) requested by one very brave little six year old ...  


Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
 How I wonder what you are.
   Up above the world so high,
   Like a diamond in the sky.


  When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.


Then the traveller in the dark,
Thanks you for your tiny spark,
He could not see which way to go,
If you did not twinkle so.


In the dark blue sky you keep,
And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye,
'Till the sun is in the sky.

How devastatingly tragic. My deepest sympathies. My grandma lost her husband and two sisters in three months. At the time I didn't think too much of it as I was only 9 years old but thinking of it now I wonder how she coped so well especially as the landlord of their farm tried to evict her saying she wasn't on the tenancy! Sometimes life is very hard.

Oh Marina,

I am so very sorry to hear that you have lost three friends so very close together. I've often heard an old wives tale "deaths come in threes." My heart goes out to the brave little one who was able to look beyond his grief and pick a song from his little world that fits his circumstances. So very sad :(

Marina that's terribly sad - for you and for your friends' families. I feel for you and especially the child who requested Twinkle Twinkle. I'd forgotten the verse about, "..the traveller in the dark". How sweetly apposite. (Looking forward to meeting you again at the Frome Rag market, Cx)

So very sorry to hear and read of the loss in your life. I think many of us grow up with twinkle twinkle little star but i didn't realise there were another 2 verses. Such beautiful and thoughtful words, dee x
