Shades ...

of umber, ochre and sienna ...
... appearing leaf by leaf,
day by day,
as Autumn spills fiery shades,
over Summer's patchwork,
wraps her cloak,
and extends her hand in cool embrace.

VJ feels a little melancholy,
at the thought of winter chill,
and darker days.

Cradling her Summer reverie,
she clings to the last warm breath,
as she would cling to a fading love.

  1. Think thoughts of cosying up and having a bit of a rest. And of Spring getting nearer by the day! OK, I had to try, winter chill depresses me too.

  4. Lovely words... I adore autumn but it's not so dreary like in North. It's all about coziness, candles, fireplace, hot chocolate, golden shades and so many things...I'm sending you some sunshine as we have enough of it!

  7. Several blogs have expressed feelings of melancholy at this time year, but it does pass, and then we embrace what comes next. I don't expect that we would love the summer as much as we do if it was hot and the sun shone all year round.
Unbelievably I even noticed some spring bulb shoots in the garden today.

  8. Hello Marina, such a beautiful poem which sums up exactly how I feel about the winter months. I’m excited this year though because the family are coming over from Australia – they don’t go back until mid January when Spring will be just around the corner.

  10. But autumn needs to be. Even nature needs a tea break!

  11. I used to love autumn, but I fear as I get older, I find it somewhat melancholic too. I'm thinking forward to spring, and trying not to think about winter!

  13. Not a fan of this time of year, the car boots are scrappy and the spiders are enormous.
