Hallway Handiwork

It was looking tired and dismal, and far from welcoming.
She covered the pink paint with a fresh coat of brightening white ...
and replaced the heavy winter patchwork curtain with a sparkly sari ...
Magazines stacked ...
the Mr will NOT part with his National Geographics no matter how much she nags!
But then ... she does like to keep a few favourites too ...
Some of her key collection ...
given pride of place in gilded plaster and wood frames, rescued from the dump!
And a new peg bag from the lovely Amanda of Shabby Chick ...
The old glass fronted cabinet was bought for a song at a local auction
and came from a London outfitter's.  It was scratched, chipped and very dirty
but after a good wash, sanding and staining, it came up like new
and is perfect for all their CD's, DVD's and some of her crafting stash.
Her Ladybird book collection sits atop,
along with big sweetie jars filled with buttons and wooden cotton reels ...
A favourite vintage feathered Liberty dress ...
She cleaned and polished the glass panes in the door.
Today the sunrays are shining through, laying pictures on the floor.

  2. Hmmm - I wish my magazines stacked up so nicely - mine tend to slide around and cause a bit of a trip hazard! Love the keys x Jane

  3. ~ It is the little treasures we collect, so personal to us, that gives our home their character...Not bought straight from a shop floor... but rescued and cleaned and perhaps given a fresh lick of paint...~ A new life! LOVE your cabinate and the fact it cost you very little, but looks so grand ! ~ Lovely to have the sunshine showing its face, but it is ever so windy here...MEN and their mags! eh..~hehe....~ with kindest thoughts...Maria x Oops thanks for kind words always..

  7. For some reason my favourite bit about this is the keys, just love how many there are. I'm a collector of old magazines as well so I can relate to your husband and yourself haha, most definitely!

  8. Pretty reorg! The cabinet is amazing, and I like the idea with the glass jars. I used to stack mags too - a simple yet elegant style solution. I am laughing over the National Geographic thing as my Dad would never, and still won't as far as I know, part from his collection!

  13. Heavens - you should see my stacks of World of Interiors. Beside the bed, either side of my desk, in a kitchen cupboard, in a chest in the attic.. Well, I have been collecting them since about 1982.
