Somerset has had a soaking.
A deluge on saturated ground that can take no more.
The church ... on an island in the far distance.

A torrent gushed through VJ's own street.
They live out of reach and were lucky, others less so.
But amidst the despair and cold grey skies,
there were sequins and glitter.
Mrs Fruit was 40 and they were invited to party.
With one proviso ...
All guests had to sparkle!

Mr managed a little tinsel on his hat.
Next day, after little sleep, and with a sore head,
VJ trundled through the rain to Sherborne,
and set up her wares at the Antiques fair.

But it was a bad day.
Forecasts of hurricane force winds, torrential rain,
and what seemed like impending Armageddon, kept all customers at bay.
They packed up early and headed home.
A warm fire and hearty meal welcomed her.
Sorry that the customers were not prepared to venture out though I must admit we didn't either on Saturday! Let's hope you do better in Frome and that the water has dried up somewhat before then.

ReplyDeleteI have heard about the flooding in the UK and sure hope it abates soon. Too bad about the vintage fair. Sparkles are a great way to celebrate -- and a cure-all for the blahs in general! xo

Sorry to hear it was quiet at the fair. We had the same horrible weather in Holland this weekend. Luckily no flooding like in Somerset. It looks terrible!

So pleased that you have remained safe and dry. Around here lots of flooding too, but we live 750feet high so nothing with us - all the rain that falls on us sadly runs down the hill to the poor residents in the valley below.

ReplyDeleteWhat a soaking you are getting! It looks like a flood has taken hold. I don't believe I've ever seen so much water. I'm sure glad that you were out of reach and didn't get flooded out. What are the people doing who have had their homes filled with water?
On a lighter note, a Birthday party sounds like fun especially with sequins and sparkles. Happy 40th Birthday Mrs. Fruit!
Golly gee! That is some wetness for sure! Well done for even attempting the market. Here in Oz everyone goes a tiny bit loopy when they forecast big rain (it being such a rarity and all) and even though we have had some late showers for this time of the year it's still very tame compared to that! Cosiness and tea and comfort food is a must I'd say. Sending you drier vibes :-) xx

Sequins are the perfect antidote to all the crap weather we've had. Why don't they make sequinned wellies? Maybe I should pitch it on Dragon's Den? x
