Making her happy ...

Post holiday blues.
Fading sun and darker nights.
Needing to relight the flame, spark a smile inside.
Throwing the windows open, she stands in a sun ray.
Admiring flowers from her mum-in-law.

Dusting off her sewing machine …
New velvet handles on a favourite bag …
… old mohair jumper replaces existing threadbare footrest cover.
Two ticks on her ‘to do’ list.  That makes her smile.
Stripping lavender stems.
Heady scent all pervading.
Taking deep breaths of healing air.

They take some time out for a pub lunch.
Hand raised pork pies, chorizo scotch egg,
pail of crispy chips and some token salad.
Hoppy ale and red wine.

Light growing ever stronger.
Brightening sun claiming the prize.
They walk across farmlands and puff their way up over Corton Ridge.
Each step assuaging the guilt of their lunchtime excesses.
Lungs filled with autumnal air.
Following the smoothed earth of an oft trodden path.
Sun shadows gliding over green glazed hills and barren ploughed fields.
Their favourite walk, a seasonal pilgrimage.
Spirit lifted, load lightened.
She ran down the hill with uncontrollable momentum and renewed vigour.
Smiling.

What a great way to renew your spirit and breathe in the change of seasons. Your photos are so beautiful...all the lovely hills and green fields. I love the mohair jumper! It looks so warm and inviting and the smell of lavender is cleansing and inviting. I just ordered myself a beautiful bunch of lavender. :)
