Little Man's Patch

A little red trowel.
Earth dug and “fizzed” (sieved!).
Worms collected “to wiggle the mud”.
With furrowed brow, seeds carefully sown,
In rows and whirls, some blow in the wind.
Caring little hands, nurturing.
Pretty flowers, carrots, onions, peas and herbs.

Later he cries as raindrops fall, heavy and hard.
Sunshine bright washed away.
Sweet peas floundering with each watery punch.
She tells him the rain is good,
But he turns away with a tear in his eye.
His little garden flattened and beaten.

As morning birdsong disturbs their slumber he runs outside.
Flower faces smile,
Green shoots stand tall and quenched.
A nibbled leaf, one pea shoot gone.
Pesky birds and slimy slugs.
A green netted veil and a lion to guard.

Aw - what a lovely post! Hope the slugs and birds keep away - that lion should frighten them!

What a lovely post, so sweet. I love the lion guarding the sweet peas. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can recommend Center Parcs but it can be a little expensive, we found that eating out there was extortionate! It is lovely to be in amongst nature and great for kids.

Have you tried surrounding the patch with crushed eggshells to help the lion keep the slugs away! This weather's been awful

So sweet. All this flipping rain has to be doing some good to something! The wettest drought in living memory. I remember the long hot summer of 76 being a proper drought, sun sun sun stretching for ever in front of us!

Aw, poor little guy...he probably thought his little patch was no more! So glad he saw in the morning that all it needed was a good drink of water!

What an eventful day you had! I have strong and fond memories of gardening as a child, and with my children--very special!

Pesky slugs - I'm constantly going on a hunt for them at night especially with all this wet weather we've been having.

before I forget, LOVE that cutlery box! I want one!

Such a cute garden. Isn't it lovely how kids just love to garden? Good to start them off young.

Do order a petticoat (no, I am not on commission or working for them!) they are GORGEOUS. I nearly didn't buy it as it's quite a lot for a foundation garment (and a lot to spend on self), but it's just beautiful and I'm so glad I did. Now I'm hankering after the really ruffly one. Will have to save up for that!

love the pics of the Queen.

If there was ever a blog post to motivate me and make me venture out into the garden then this is it! Everything from your trowel, lion and Mackeson box are just beautiful. x

Love the lion watching over the garden, he is sure to keep the nasties away. Egg shells are a great idea, they seem to work well. Hope the little mr is enjoying his garden, Tam x
